Jersey Boys

If you love "gangster" movies as much as I do, then you'll love this musical. Before going to see Jersey Boys, I had no idea of what it would be about. I literally thought it would just be about boys from Jersey. Well it is, but it's way more than that and then some. The musical tells a story about four Jersey boys making it to the top from the bottom. But, there are a few setbacks that requires them to revisit their past. The acting was great and I hope the cast stays for a very long time. Great singing, great dancing, great plot overall. Recommended.

West Side Story

Although it's been years since I've watched this, I still remember the amazing set, scenes, and theatrics. The book set the stage for me before watching the musical on Broadway. Right after reading Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, I read West Side Story in order to make the correlation between both. It's a more modern version of Romeo & Juliet and the depiction on stage is marvelous. There's a lot of Spanish influence on the dancing, but don't underestimate the Americans. I cannot remember the names of the main characters, but what remains obvious are the 2 lovers' families fighting each other due to past feuds. It is truly the modern-day Romeo & Juliet refurbished for the modern-day eye. Great show and highly recommended for those that love a lot of dancing and drama.

Beloved!

Beloved by Toni Morrison. I read this book everywhere: in the gym, steam room, train. This book taught me life lessons as I read. I've always heard about this book for years and wasn't displeased after finally reading it. It takes you back into times when slavery was slowly disappearing in the aftermaths of the abolishment (I believe). Though the events in the book are rather ghostly, or not what we would find common today, the things that the characters say are morals and lessons we could all apply to life, regardless of what generation we are in. 

I go to the library for most of my books, especially for authors like my favorite, Rochelle Alers (where buying a few of her books is fine but ALL of her books would cost me a fortune). Some books are meant to be bought. This is one of them. It's very powerful.

Midnight and the Meaning of Love

Great book. I read all of her books and there isn't one that failed. This one however, stuck out a lot. Not only did it portray the protagonist, Midnight, as a dream man in the most realistic circumstances, but Souljah managed to give light to the religion of Islam and the good things coming from it. She shows you Islam in an unusual angle that you typically wouldn't see on TV. She does the same for the Japanese and Korean culture, despite the fact that this is what we would consider a "hood" book. I do recommend reading this book, but before you do I strongly suggest that you read The Coldest Winter Ever, then Midnight first. If you could buy this book, buy it!

Mary Poppins!

Can I start off by saying Mary Poppins is THE best musical on Broadway I've ever seen?

WOW!

I didn't take pictures this time, I was literally too into the musical and forgot about it (on top of the fact that we're never allowed to). However, if I could describe the set and the visuals, that still wouldn't be enough. This is a musical you have to see with your own eyes. The set is INCREDIBLE. By far the best set I've seen out of all Broadway shows I've been fortunate enough to watch. I've never watched the movie before but now I want to. I am a Broadway fanatic, and going to see a musical has become one of my favorite pastimes in New York City. Please if you're ever in NYC, see this musical. It's right in Times Square, juxtaposed to the many others of course. If you live here already, there's no excuse. GET!

And how can I forget, I've finally learned how to sing and spell, SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDICOUS while watching the musical! They were awesome!

Every single scene was great. However, my favorite scene was with the Jamaican woman in her candy shop, Mrs. Corry. Hilarious! The crowd loved it.

I would see this again in a heartbeat. And wait until you see the surprise at the the very end of the musical. I don't want to ruin it. :)
