Ochi Weekend & Bacchanal Jamaica 2011!

Where do I begin with this post...

Prior to leaving JFK for Jamaica, I deemed that I BETTER enjoy myself. There were several important events that I was missing, including the extra studying I could have had for my final exams. I missed the End-Of-The-Year Recognition Awards my internship put on. I was invited to perform one of my spoken word pieces that was a requirement for my English class at a big spoken word event my school was keeping, and Mos Def was there! Ugh, I don't even like to mention that. As soon as I get off the plane tomorrow, I have to rush to school with all my luggage to take my Spanish final. Going to Jamaica for a week and several days was a big inconvenience because I could have gotten A LOT of studying done, rather a plethora of studying. Right before writing this blog, I had to get some work done and I'm doing the same thing right after this. It's so hard to do it in Jamaica when you're surrounded by non-stop partying and a beautiful sun, that's why I can never get work done here. Unfortunately, this time I HAD to force myself to stop having fun and settle down for a few hours to dedicate myself to some studying if I wanted to get good grades on all of my upcoming finals. Aahhhh basically I, myself, personally MADE SURE that this long trip was going to be strictly FUN.

Ochi Weekend
Friday

The first party lined up for Ochi Weekend was Tipsy! Hosted by Rocsi from 106 & Park and Mavado! We ran into a few friends and ended up on stage & VIP for the majority of the party.

Mavado

Shortly after, we went to Club Margaritaville after and ran into some more friends. It was definitely nice.

Saturday

Before heading out for Saturday's festivities, we decided to go get some nice breakfast at a traditional, real irie Jamaican spot, so we went to Fisherman beach! The food was sooooo good. Kimone, my cuz, had a nice dish of fish and more. And Nancy & I had what I was fiend-ing for way too long, ackee & saltfish with festival. Hmmmm my mouth is salivating right now thinking about the longing for I had.

Then it was time for Beach Jouvert! In hand are our Beach Jouvert and Daydreams tickets, US$40 and US$30 respectively (would never pay for a party with a price that high back in the states).

Sunday

It was now time for Daydreams! Daydreams is one of the biggest parties for Ochi Weekend and Dream Weekend (as talked about in that post). I wore real Swarovski crystals on my breasts (took hours to do) and Nancy put the crystals on a piece she bought from American Apparel. Daydreams was niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice as always. Later on we went to Ville again, but it wasn't as popping as the 2 nights before. Ran into some family & friends the whole night. It was wonderful.

Monday

Monday came and it was finally time for Igloo: Me and Nancy's favorite party in Jamaica! But before it was Igloo time, we had some fun day activities first. First, we went to Dover with two of our guy friends from Ocho Rios to watch the big car race but ended up turning back because of the traffic. So instead we stopped at my uncle's new restaurant on the beach. The restaurant is called The Roxborough. Check it out if you're ever in Ocho Rios! It's right in the tourist area. The food was great and the venue is very classy, not to mention that the venue is right on the beach, so you get a nice sea breeze.

We got to Igloo late so we didn't have much time to party but we still had fun! After, we clubhopped from Nexus to Shades. Eventful night, but all I remember is being so tired and wanting to sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

Sooner than later Tuesday came, it was time to leave Ocho Rios and head back to Kingston. We had a long week of carnival festivities waiting for us. We lounged around one of my buddy's restaurants, went to Captain's, went to the casino, then headed out.

Carnival Week
Wednesday

Wednesday night we did a lot of hopping. We went to Fiction and caught the end of it. Right after we headed to limelight and met up with my girl Missy. Soon after, we finally headed to a place called Waterfalls which was probably the most eventful happening of the night lol. Ran into my friend Chi Ching Ching. We didn't leave until a little before 7am and the place was STILL packed.

Waterfalls

Thursday

We slept like babbiieessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.

Friday

We picked up our carnival costumes from Mas Camp and headed out! Later on, we got ready to head to one of the best events I had my whole trip, Bacchanal Jouvert! Jouvert started at 9:30pm but we didn't get there until about 2am. Soca artists Bunji Garlin and his wife Fay-Ann Lyons performed and it was awesome. Usain Bolt was wild when he was brought up on stage and it was obvious that he liked this Soca thing, he's clearly a strictly Reggae person but that's how good Bacchanal Jouvert was! We ended up running into Jamaica's very own Yendi Phillips! Miss Universe 1st Runner Up and Miss Jamaica of 2010!

We didn't end up coming in till about 8am on Saturday, broad daylight. Sleep was calling our name but Jouvert was so fun. The funnest Jouvert I have ever had!

Saturday

We slept like babiessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.

And finally...

Carnival & Big Wall!!!
Sunday

It was finally time for the big day, carnival, so we got ready!

Then it was time to hit the road!!!
We ended up jumping with the same group we did last year, Bacchanal Babes. This year the theme was "Princess of Persia." I personally think that this is still the best section of Bacchanal Jamaica, though others might disagree. I love the privacy we get aside from all the other sections as well as the surplus of food they serve us. We had a great time on the road!

Back to school I go...
